Samhain Summer’s End. The lunar festival of Samhain celebrates the end of the goddess ruled summer, and the beginning of the god ruled winter. The waning moon is at her darkest as the goddess turns to her phase of crone, elder, and wise woman. It is a time to honour the phase of death in the ongoing cycle of life, knowing that it is through death that we experience rebirth, bringing in the energy of the new. During Samhain, the veil between the worlds is the thinnest making communication between worlds clearer. It is a time of honoring our ancestors from whom we came, and a time to commemorate the souls of ones passed on. You may like to remember them with a prayer, some fresh flowers next to their photo or by lighting a candle. Have a silent conversation with your loved ones passed on, and listen for their reply back to you which may come through your thoughts, a feeling, inner vision, a sound, smell, or some sign later on. Samhain is celebrated as the Celtic/Druid new year, when they lit a huge bonfire to honour the deceased and all the old gods and goddesses. A ritual for now is to write on a piece of paper anything you would like to let go of or heal in this time of death/rebirth. Meditate on it, and then burn the piece of paper in a safe way. Close the ritual with a feast of apples, cider and cakes.
