Lammas

A pagan celebration of the beginning of harvest, also known as Lughnasad. The plants have grown to full bloom and are providing us with their fruits. They are also dropping their seeds to ensure the growth of future crops. Autumn is approaching, and preparations begin for gatherings and storage. It is a time to give thanks for the abundant, healthy and nutritious foods that nature provides. Use this time to realise that the fruits of today can only ever represent the seeds you planted yesterday. Become consciously aware of the seeds you are planting each day through your thoughts, words, and actions.

It is a traditional time for craft festivals and colourful fairs. Find a market, festival or fair near you and browse through the handmade wares, or get inspired and make something arty and crafty yourself.

This is also the time when the "Tailtean Marriages" were performed by a Priest or Priestess of the Old Religion, similar to Wiccan Handfasting ceremonies done today- a marriage between two people lasting a year and a day until next Lammas, at which time they can do the ceremony again or not.
